The Watchtower at Torre de la Horadada

A popular holiday destination at the extreme southern end of the Costa Blanca, Spain, Pilar de la Horadada is a charming little town with a beautiful beach area known as Torre de la Horadada. The picture above shows the ancient watchtower (Torre) which was built to warn local inhabitants of impending attacks by Barbary pirates, who sailed these coasts centuries ago. A different type of invader is seen today, with holidaymakers descending on the area in their thousands especially during July and August.
