The Tower of Santa Pola Salt Lakes

Santa Pola Salt Lakes

Santa Pola Salt Lakes

Today’s picture is of the ancient tower formerly used by pirates and located in the area of the Santa Pola salt lakes to the south of Alicante, on the Costa Blanca, Spain. This is an old picture showing the tower as it used to be a few years ago before, it was ‘renovated’, unfortunately it now just looks like a huge lump of concrete, with no character whatsoever. The salt lakes themselves produce huge amounts of salt every year, although much of the area is protected reserve with abundant bird life, and is particularly renowned for its flamingo population.
